Proudly cast my vote today! I voted for the liberal party candidate. 

I took a picture of my ballot, but the cardboard separator things were too low to take a selfie (whitegirlproblems). Also not posting a picture of the ballot because privacy, yo. 

so empowering to vote though. Thankful to all the women that fought so that I could vote today!

am I upset with my mom? yes. all the time. I have been for months and will be for a long time. 

but after a teary phone call while trying to pay my residence deposit fee, she managed to:

a) fix the situation- she will do it for me. I emailed her the info and she will take care of it. 

b) calm me down. I don’t know how she does it, she just has this thing she does with her voice where I immediately know it is going to be okay

c) show that you can work full time and still be a mama (she was in downtown Vancouver doing some office stuff and meetings- but was able to take my call at 10:30 in the morning) 

I know I am hard on her. Our relationship is complicated right now, but she is still someone I wish to be like, and someone who is an example to so many people. She may not always be there for me, but she tries really really hard.

Even if she comes up short, I know she has no hesitation in dropping her work and rescuing her babies (be it throwing up at school-Seamus; or forgetting their field trip permission slip- Hunter; or monthly psychiatrist appointments an hour away- me)

She sacrifices a clean, tidy house so that our house can be the neighborhood hangout. Our summer pool parties and barbecues have brought our neighborhood together. 

She wakes up in the middle of the night to check on us, she buys me coffee to cheer me up after a long week. She knows Sushi is the key to both my heart and both of the boys hearts. 

She buys me a new jacket- even if I can afford it- because she knows that 50 dollars is a stretch for me. 

She may not be perfect- she may not be all that I need her to be right now- but she is here. She will always be here.

I went to an Italian bakery today because I was early to my bank appointment and needed to kill time, and they didn’t have cannoli. 

I’m sorry- but doesn’t Italian automatically equal cannoli? I was appalled.

letdown of the century right there. 

I am still dreaming of the cannoli I had in NYC- so so so good.
